Besides the weapons collection of the Regional Museum Maribor, the exhibition is also featuring objects from the country's armoury Landeszeughaus of the Universalmuseum Joanneum in Graz, Austria. Regarding its volume the weapons collection of the Regional Museum Maribor is among the largest in Slovenia. It comprises of weapons and equipment from the Late Middle Ages to the middle of the 20th century. Between the 15th and 18th century Styria had been a border country and thus under constant thread. The weapons which had been used for its defence came from the central armoury in Graz. The objects from both museums will thus reflect the common history of the two cities and the whole of Styria. The exhibition will be installed on the ground-floor of the Castle bastion, which had been build in the 16th century as a part of the European defence line against the Turks. The “Europe in a Museum, a Museum in Europe” exhibitions encourage European museum collections and artefacts to become more mobile. It also showcases the Maribor Regional Museum as an heir of European tradition. To the collection of furniture, paintings, sculptures, and clothing from the sixteenth century to the present will be added new pieces from renowned European museums. By doing so, we aim to emphasise our shared European identity and introduce Styrian cultural heritage to Europe.
