Owing to its natural and historical sights Sabotin Hill is an important trip destination of the Goriška region. It became the Sabotin Peace Park by means of cross-border collaboration. There are footpaths and cycle routes that lead to the top of the hill. The hill is interesting due to its flora and fauna and rich history.

Sabotin Hill is most known for the battles of the Soča/Isonzo front that took place on its slopes. Lying close to the town of Gorica it represented an important defence point of the Austro-Hungarian Army. Sabotin Hill was captured by the Italian Army after the 6th Soča/Isonzo Battle. There were members of 22 nations fighting the war on its slopes. Today the hill, as the Peace Park, tries to remind visitors about the absurdity of wars and to foster the coexistence of nations. The entire hill is intertwined with a vast system of caverns through which a visitor may walk today from one side of the mountain to the other.

To the southeast side of Sabotin Hill’s ridge, there is a 535m high peak called St. Valentine where the reconstructed remains of a church complex can be seen.

The state border between Slovenia and Italy runs on the ridge of the Sabotin Hill which was finally dissolved when Slovenia entered the European Union.

Emerging from the project The Sabotin Peace Park, a museum collection entitled Sabotin in WWI and a memorial room dedicated to the region of Northern Primorska in the liberating war of 1991 were opened in the premises of the former frontier guardhouse. There is also a bistro where drinks, the local dish jota and domestic sausages with turnip and štruklji, the most characteristic dish of Slovenia, are offered to visitors. The museum collection and the bistro are open on Saturdays and Sundays and holidays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. A visit to the displayed collections with a professional guide and the bistro services are available to groups upon advance bookings.
