The Evangelical Maribor exhibition is designed to familiarise the widest possible national and international public with an important but almost completely overlooked landmark event in the history of Maribor and the Drava valley – the century in which the evangelical religion, community and church organisation appeared, firmly grounded, thrived and were finally banished and destroyed for more than two centuries from the Maribor area. The exhibition particularly focuses on the events in the last decades of the 16th century in which evangelicals predominated especially among the leading social classes in Maribor and the nobility in the surrounding area, making the town one of the most important centres of the new religion in the then Lower Austria (the Duchies of Styria, Carinthia and Carniola, the Counties of Gorizia and Gradisca, the Habsburg part of Istria and the town of Trieste). The exhibition boards feature in a non-scientific way the main parts of history of the local evangelical community as well as the leading members and of course its local antagonists. The author of the exhibition is Žiga Oman.
The exhibition area will be open every day from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm and from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm.
