The Betnava Mansion in Maribor is one of the most spectacular Baroque buildings in the Drava Valley. The mansion and its surrounding area is one of the most important archeological sites in Slovenia. The archeological site at the southeastern part of the castle is where several Roman buildings belonging to the lavish countryside Villa rustica were built. The villa was a post on the Roman road through Celje (Celeia), Ptuj (Poetovio), and Ruše (Virinum). The remains show a highly developed culture of living which established itself in the countryside during the Ancient Rome period. Objects found include pottery, a mill, an oil lamp, a coat of arms belonging to Roman nobility, a glass dish, remnants of glasses and chalices, gravestones, and coins. One of the most important findings is an Ancient Roman wall which will be show in situ. The exhibition is part of the InterArch-Steiermark project organized by Slovenia and Austria. The carrier of the project is the Universalmuseum Graz in Austria.
