Violinist Tomaž Lorenz and guitarist Jerko Novak have been working together since 1980. During their collaboration the duo has performed in numerous concerts in Slovenia and abroad, earning nothing but positive reviews from the expert public. Their repertoire features the full opus of Slovene composers (Golob, Lebič, Lipovšek, Mihelčič, Petrić, Ramovš, Šivic, Štuhec, Glavina, Strajnar), as well as a large quantity of world literature written for duos.
Tomaž Lorenz graduated from the Ljubljana Music Academy in 1966 under the mentorship of professor Leon Pfeifer. A year later he acquired his Master’s degree in violin and chamber play in the same class. He honed his skills with renowned music teachers in Rome, Sienna, Trieste and Budapest. As a member of the Lorenz trio and as a soloist he performed in the majority of European countries, in India, Africa and across the American continent. Besides holding concerts, Lorenz is also very active in music teaching, serving as professor of chamber play at the Ljubljana Academy of Music, and holds chamber music classes in Slovenia and abroad. Lorenz is the recipient of three Prešeren Foundation Prizes, two Awards of the Slovene Composers Association, the Župančič Prize, the Betetto Prize and numerous other accolades.
Jerko Novak began his music education by studying guitar at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet under the mentorship of professor Hubert Scharra. He graduated from the Graz University of Music and Performing arts, where he completed his programme studies under the mentorship of professor Marge Bäuml-Klasinc. Novak received numerous awards and prizes at Slovene and Yugoslav music school competitions. In 1983 he received the highest Slovene prize for young artists, the Zlata ptica (Golden Bird) award. Novak is also the 2010 Škerjanc Prize laureate for outstanding achievements in educating young Slovene guitarists and helping a music institution achieve international artistic recognition (Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet). As a guitarist with a broad solo repertoire, Novak performs in concerts in Slovenia and abroad and is a regular member of different chamber music ensembles. Novak is a professor of guitar at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet and regular mentor at Slovene summer music camps. He is a multi-talented musician who regularly focuses on composing music, most often for younger audiences. Besides holding numerous concerts, Novak is also an avid composer of music for theatre, film and television.
