Next to the grammar school in Kranj proudly stands a Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum), which is protected as natural monument. The top of this 27 metre high tree leans for about five metres from its vertical line. The car park located below the sequoia, which is on the side the tree is leaning, is damaging the vitality of the tree.
To preserve this unique natural monument, the municipality of Kranj proposed that the tree should be secured by steel to the grammar school building so as to prevent it from leaning further. A preceding research showed that the trunk of the tree is vital. The tree was secured to the grammar school building in the spring of 2003.
