The fantastic painting world of Marko Jakše sprang onto the scene like a bolt from the blue in the 1990s when in Slovenia many young creatives were giving up painting. Jakše is not only true to the traditional concept of painting, but is also completely unique. He embodies the ideal of the freedom of creative spirit. With every exhibition hundreds of different images seduce the viewer again and again. In fact they allure the viewer with their secrets, because the final message and narration of the painting is hidden, even obtainable. They are full of the atypical thinking and unconventional connections between symbols of cultures and subcultures from Christianity, aborigines to homoeroticism. Marko Jakše is in fact an artist of contradictions. He is contemporary and archaic, poetic and expressive, intimate and political. And since we can never run out of opposites, each of his exhibitions is a surprise, which attracts attention. This one is no different.
