Osek is a clustered village on the slope of the Plateau of the Trnovo forest where the depression took place in the ancient geological history. The first notes of the local community date back to around 1350 in a document recording the union of Aquilea and Gorizia estates. The name Osek appears in the document from the year 1635 when some land was donated to the Church of the Holy Virgin. However, the location indicates that the village existed already long before that, probably in the Roman times or even earlier. Roman gold coins were found below the village 120 years ago.
The centre of the village prides itself with a famous over 100 year old lime tree. The locals call it “the lime tree in the square” or “the lime tree in the centre of the world”.
Nowadays the villagers make their livings mostly with viticulture and wine making and some other farm activities like the wine sale in wine taverns - vinotoč.
