Guest Room Maribor invites you to attend a discussion and a meet-and-greet with the guest artists in residency in October and witness the presentation of their work.
It seems that the specifically cultural/industrial context of the city Maribor enables and encourages the innovative forms of art, which is especially noticeable when foreign artists visit the city. With the intention of strengthening the flow of ideas and creativity, the Cultural Centre Pekarna in partnership with the Public Institute Maribor 2012, and in collaboration with the MKC Maribor established the Soba za goste (‘Guestroom’), a platform for artistic residences. This platform is an upgrade for the already existent resident hosting, which is mostly the work of individual culture workers and organizations. The new resident platform offers guest artists in collaboration with the Maribor artistic scene a place for creating on various locations in the city. It offers a coordinational, executive, and informational structure and strives for the stability of material conditions, which are necessary for a lasting hosting of foreign artists in Slovenia and for Slovenian artists abroad. In 2011, exactly 100 artists from all over the world applied to the public competition and out of all applicants the jury chose eight artists, who are going to visit Maribor in 2012, and who will have the opportunity to stay and create there for a month.
