The third instalment of the Literature in the Streets project presents the most time- and content-focused event to date. The six-day event is ready to be presented in a fourteen day-span in the partner towns of the European Capital of Culture as per following schedule: Mondays (October 15th and 22nd), Wednesdays (October 17th and 24th) and Fridays (October 19th and 26th).

The leitmotif of this year’s event is young adult literature, with the event largely dedicated to the younger generations of readers. The six-day event will feature presentations of six authors, chosen with the help of Dragica Haramija, PhD, one of the most renowned experts in the field of young adult literature.

Some of the authors presented at this year’s event are part of school curriculums and reading badges, thus signalling their rise among the ranks of household names of Slovene young adult literature.

The educational aspect of this year’s event is stronger than ever, as visits to the Literature in the Streets events will be offered to schools in lieu of their regular Slovene classes. The organizers wish to incorporate grammar school pupils into the event by giving them a chance to read original short stories at selected event sites.

The sites chosen for this year’s event include town centres, whereas the organization of the project was further enhanced by adding the giant of literature Simona Kopinšek to the project staff.

After the conclusion of the project the students of the Department of Slovene of the Faculty of Arts and members of the student section of the Slavic Association Maribor will publish a publication set to include an all-round presentation of contributing authors. The presentations will feature the authors’ bibliographies as well as bits and pieces of their intimate views on literary creation. The publication will also feature the stories written by children, which should enhanced the children’s love for literature and give them a chance to identify with the Literature in the Streets project at a tender age.

IF AS A YOUNGLING A BOOK I HOLD, I WILL NOT DROP IT WHEN I’M OLD.
