November (2008) by the famous American playwright and merciless critic of the modern American reality David Mamet is a fierce farce about high-level politics. The events are set in the White House Oval Office where we witness the last days in office of POTUS Charles Smith. The outcome of the upcoming elections seems grim, and, having made substantial errors during his time in office, Smith tries to save what can still be saved with the help of his advisers (who are either morbidly cynical or helpless idealists). Smith’s actions do not lack bizarre twists, shameless extortions and all available kinds of manipulations. The play is full of gallows humour, offering a behind-the-scenes look into politics, which could very well affect the lives of each and every one of us.
