As part of ten events – Speakers in the Cathedral – the ninth instalment belongs to dr. Jože Trontelj, born in 1939 in Kamnik. Trontelj is a member of numerous renowned international scientific and expert associations, including the International Association for the Study of Pain, International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology, American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, serving as an official in some of them. Trontelj is also a member of editorial boards of domestic and foreign scientific magazines and was part of the working group which implemented the Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine, the basic European document on bioethics. Trontelj was also part of the group which implemented a protocol of the Convention regarding ethical rules of biomedicine research on humans. He greatly contributed to the ethical aspects of recent Slovene legislature, especially The Removal and Transplantation of Human Body Parts for the Purposes of Medical Treatment Act; the Infertility Treatment and Procedures of Biomedically-assisted Procreation Act; the Genetic Technology Act and the Rules on Clinical Testing of Medicinal Products.
