The visually-conceptual spatial project is related to the research of mental structure of space which stems from the limitations of space in relation to reality.
The basic premises are closely related to the human urge and need of limiting space, which originate in basic living, existential and spiritual needs. The result is a specific system of spatial structures on a horizontal, vertical, deep and temporal (historical) level. The system is further defined by the coordinate system, which determines the relationships and movements in individual spaces and stems from the mental development and mental visualisation as direct consequences of consciousness.
Mental space is structured by thought through the transparency of consciousness. Every thought of space carries a unique mental image, manifested in the project as an ampoule of spatial inscriptions and arranged in space akin to a code system. The system itself is manifested by need – the desire for freedom of space, achievable only by means of a mental screen unique to every individual. The need for space stems from the need to obtain personal space and thus calls for a mind map to define the structure of unique and universal space. From this position, the mental view of (virtual) space moves in the direction of mental visualisation of space, thus making it one-directional, physically unrestricted, imperceptible to senses and related to emotions.
The project is based on a code system, presented in the form of multiplied illusionistic images or ampoules. The ampoules act as a symbolic medium and condense the mental visualisation of mental structures, which acquire a strongly associative form, full of optical illusions. The main purpose of the images is not their visual component; after all, the images are not the primary medium of mental structure of space, but rather formal relays of the code system absorbed by the observer. The code system is decoded as a mental (virtual) structure of space imposed onto the observer. From this point of view, the image itself is not the carrier of meaning; it is simply a physical medium of a system manifested in the observer’s mental visualisation by means of external visualisation, using the subject as a medium. The process can be observed as an ironic metaphor for imposing mental structure as a pattern or simply as a conclusion that we have been manipulated by internalising external mind maps imposed upon us as historical essence. On a social and existential level, this notion is of uttermost importance in the system of human habitat, acting as a form of defence mechanism for restricting and calming our train of thought through mental imagery. This mechanism is exponentially different from the external view in the form of feedback of images which allow us to aestheticize reality. The question arises, whether the function of a mental image created by a mind map would differ from the function demanded and approved by an image-based society. The function is double sided, allowing us to subjectify or objectify reality in order to better control the change of reality, replaced by the change of mental imagery.
The power of mental imagery has been de-platonized by our understanding of reality and our pondering about the discrepancies between experiencing reality and images. Mental imagery draws its strength from the fact that the bases of mental imagery are equal to the bases of reality and can serve as a powerful impulse, able to provoke the change of reality. They are, in fact, more real than we can imagine. Mental images have an exceptionally powerful ability of determining our needs in regards to reality and often evoke greed as a means of substituting experiences. These mental images are actually capable of replacing reality, providing they mimic reality or are at least “similar” to reality.
Mental images of “truth” in the form of visual code denote the establishment of a relationship with the world we
