Angelika Schnell is the head of the homicide department and living proof for the theory of chaos being nothing more than a type of orderliness. Despite her occasionally unconventional methods, Angelika is an excellent detective, who values hard evidence just as much as she does her instinct. Her instincts might not be admissible in court, yet in the end they always put her on the right trail.
In season 4 Angelika returns to her department following a stint in the hospital due to a gunshot wound. In her daydreams, Angelika sees a little girl with black hair instead of the omnipresent murder victims, after which the episodes (5 episodes per season) are named. Angelika confides in her ex-husband, who temporarily resides with her, and decides on seeking professional help. The little girl Schnell saw in her delirious state at the hospital turns out to be long-missing Lucy Haller. The final twist of the series reveals that Schnell is still lying in a deep coma and had only dreamt the events depicted in the series. Dreaming about the case gives her the ability to subconsciously process the information, which leads to a rapid resolution of the Lucy Haller case. The previous 4 episodes feature old, unresolved cases Schnell managed to solve while lying in a deep coma.
