On 28 September 2012, the second renovated interior (after the House of Science – Centre of Experiments) was opened on 7 Orožnova Street in Maribor. It is a project entitled “RENOVATING CITY INTERIORS” in the context of the European Capital of Culture and carried out by RAZ:UM in cooperation with the Maribor House of Architecture and the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Maribor.
On 7 Orožnova Street, the Living Courtyards project (street theatre project by Ana Monroe who wants to revive the town’s courtyards) initiated a renovation of three areas – smaller abandoned apartments where visiting artists could create and present their works of art. The idea was to provide a space that would be neutral but at the same time support the artists and their creativity.
The development of design solution for the renovation of the interior and the actual realisation of the renovation was carried out by students in their 3rd year of studies at the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Civil Engineering (Daniela Bajc, Matic Gselman / Saša Jagrič, Eva Mohorič, Simona Rošer / Gregor Sagadin, Katarina Strupar Krnc) and their mentors architects Dr. Kaja Pogačar and Marko Jauševec.

With an open call for cooperation, the first phase of the Renovating City Interiors project began in February 2012. The Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Civil Engineering invited the owners and leaseholders of the premises in the old town centre to apply for the renovation of the interior of their premises.
Among the applicants, ten selected individuals received a free preparation of the project documentation for renovating the interior. The aim of the project is to redecorate and increase the quality of the interior (bars, cafes, hair salons, shops, etc.) in the town centre and to promote new and good architecture.
The design solutions for all 10 interiors included in the “RENOVATING CITY INTERIORS” project are published on the website of the Maribor House of Architecture. (http://ham.raz.um.si/projekti/prenova/index.php).
