“Children of Lent” is a theatre play with singing and dancing directed by Tone Partljič and performed by the DKD Svoboda theatre group from Senovo. The author based his work entirely on the history of Maribor. The play is a constant dialogue with the past, discovering origins in the two World Wars (especially in the second) and in the industrial character of the town on the Drava River. He wanted to preserve the memory of Lent marked by poverty, revolt, comradeship and loyalty. He tried to recapture “history” with the pre-war atmosphere, the cruelty of the Second World War and the “dictatorship of the proletariat” after the war. The “chronicle” is about a collective protagonist, a group of boys from Lent who have many things in common: their youth, the social determinism due to deprived background and life in the poor part of the town on the Drava River, different nationalities, love of music and a sort of social rebellion. But friendship and love help us overcome obstacles and prejudices.
