Considered to be one of the most emblematic works of Portuguese Modernism, Húmus by Raul Brandão was published for the first time in 1917. It is both a novel and a monologue, consisting of a wide trove of paragraphs and reflections between its main personal narrator and his philosophical alterego. Mainly focusing on selfperspectives and experiences, lyrically expressed in a poetic prose manner, the work has given rise to a broad range of translation possibilities and dilemmas, which underline its relevance concerning language, literature and comparative studies. The translation into Slovenian and Catalan thus contributes to and stimulates academic research and intercultural approaches. The translation of this Modernism masterpiece was tackled by professor Maria João Reynaud (University of Porto) and her team of specialists, Anna Cortils (University of Lisbon) and Mateja Rozman (University of Lisbon/University of Ljubljana), for the Catalan and Slovenian versions, respectively. Húmus will be presented by the project coordinator Maria João Reynaud.
