Ljubljana Festival 2012

The Ljubljana Festival, with its long history and tradition of presenting premier artistic events, contributes significantly to the cultural life of Ljubljana. 

Each summer, its wide and varied programme of concert, opera and ballet events features a fine selection of renowned artists, including some of the world's most prestigious names in music and performing arts.

This year, the festival celebrates its 60th anniversary. Its programme of events, put together with special care to mark the occasion, will include more than 80 events featuring around 3,000 artists from 30 countries.

Musical highlights will include the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle, the violinist Vadim Repin, the composer and pianist Michael Nyman, Béjart Ballet Lausanne, the soprano Inva Mula, the baritone Leo Nucci, and Saint Petersburg's Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra under the conduction of Valery Gergiev. Other highlights will include the theatre production Medea by the internationally renowned Slovenian stage director Tomaž Pandur, Belgrade's Atelje 212's current production of The Glembays, the first performance of the opera Love Capital by the Slovenian composer Jani Golob, the musicals The Witches of Eastwick and Jesus Christ Superstar, and the Slovenian opera Black Masks.
