Wine road of the lower Vipava valley

The lower Vipava Valley lies between the picturesque edge of Trnovski gozd and the relatively steep karst slopes on the border between the alpine and Mediterranean regions. The warmth of the Mediterranean Sea flows from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia plains, nurturing the vines and sweetening the grapes, while the cool nights foster the pleasant bouquet of the wines.
Local winegrowers lovingly cultivate popular and indigenous wines that make the Lower Vipava Valley Wine Road special. These include Zelen, Pinela, Rebula, Tokaj, and Malvazija as well as the newer Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines. Among red wines, the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are best known.
Along with tasting the wines and local dishes, immerse yourself in the pleasures of Vipava hospitality, discover historical and cultural attractions, and enjoy sports activities.
We also recommend visits to Rihemberk Castle, Kromberk Castle, and the Kostanjevica Monastery.
