Old Spital

At the beginning of the Middle Ages the church feudal lords and the cloisters founded the so called "špitals"., which were built at town gates or sometimes outside town walls and were refuges for foreigners (hospites), for the poor, the sick, the old and the invalids. Stari špital, a unique building in Slovenia, was first mentioned in 1614.
