Up to the time of the construction of the Southern Railways in Maribor (1864) the leather trade was one of the town’s leading trades. The street by the river Drava was the most suitable place for setting up leather workshops, as a great deal of water was need for this trade. It was renowned as the dirtiest street in town; and it stayed that way right up until the collapse of the leather trade in Maribor. Today the street leads you along Lent past the Water Tower.
