The Cut-Ups, Cut-Ins, Cut-Outs exhibition presents the exciting experimental oeuvre of the cult American writer and artist William S. Burroughs. It brings together a selection of Burroughs's works which have so far rarely been exhibited in public, including, among others, visual collages, sound recordings and abstract paintings created using a shotgun.
William Seward Burroughs (1914–1997) was not only a writer (best known for his novels Naked Lunch and Junky), but also an artist who worked in different media and used a variety of different techniques. The exhibition presents his sound cut-ups, visual collages, abstract paintings created using a shotgun, rare books, documentary films, and numerous rare photographs and other objects related to his life.
The exhibition, conceived by Vienna's Kunsthalle Wien, is organized in collaboration with Ljubljana's International Centre for Graphic Arts.
