Strojna (1,055 metres) is an outcrop of the Central Alps extending from Suhi Vrh all the way to the border with Austria. The hill settlement of the same name, consisting of scattered farms, is famous for the precipitous slopes on which work in the fields and pastures becomes an extremely difficult everyday operation. Some of the farms are extremely large and almost appear to be self-contained hamlets. Fresh, healthy mountain air blows in Strojna and beautiful views can be enjoyed in all directions. Some interesting rustic wooden cottages and wonderful granaries can still be seen here. The large farm known as "Pri Janežu" is one of the most important monuments of vernacular architecture in Slovenia. Little chapels and other religious monuments decorated in the local Alpine style stand at many of the junctions of paths and trails in Strojna. The autodidact folk poet Blaž Mavrel is buried in Strojna.
