Kralj Matjaž Park is an area of countless possibilities, centered around Črna na Koroškem, a picturesque little village in the Zgornja Mežiška valley.
The open-air mining museum presents the rich history of the area’s lead and zinc mines. Among destinations, hiking enthusiasts can choose between Smrekovško pogorje (1,684 m) with its hidden Črno jezerce lake, solitary Olševa (1,930 m) with Potočka zijalka, the former dwelling place of ancient hunters, rocky Raduha (2,062 m), Uršlja gora (1,699 m), and Peca (2,126 m), beneath which sleeps the legendary King Matjaž.
Visitors can discover gigantic spruce trees, the “candlesticks” on Ježevo, the 780-year-old Najevska lipa linden tree on Ludranski vrh, and the botanical riches of Kamen. The programs of the Club Krnes Hotel, the only genuine mountain biking hotel in Slovenia, offer something for everyone, even cave mountain biking in the tunnels of Mount Peca.
In winter, enjoy building snow castles of King Matjaž and be sure to relish local dishes such as klocovi nudlni, mežrli, hrenov zos, koroški mošt, črničevc . . .
