Planica. A valley beneath Ponce. A valley of ski-jumps.
When the winter bids farewell, Planica, with all her natural beauty, honours the world ski jumping elite. The event begins on the roads which all lead to the final destination, when at dawn, through the narrow entrance to the valley, the visitors, like pilgrims, slowly approach the cradle of ski jumping. The whole event lasts for three days, and during this weekend more than 100,000 visitors come to watch and cheer for the brave jumpers.
About fifteen hundred of them (which is a record in itself) are equipped with accordions, ready to play the famous song about Planica. The great ski jumping masters, in return for the warm welcome, seek the longest jumps, or flights, as it were. The first jump of over one hundred meters took place in Planica, as did the first jump of over two hundred meters. Which record is going to be broken during the Planica 2013 festivities?
