Cycle your way to reach the two important rivers in the Vipava Valley, i.e. Hubelj and Vipava. Each of them has its own character and distinctive features. The Vipava is full of life and follows a serpentine course through the fertile Vipava Valley, while the Hubelj is a vivacious torrent.
First turn your pedals to get to the Hubelj Spring, an especially magnificent sight following a heavy rain. Listen to the sounds. The water’s murmur and singing birds create a pleasant, yet often overlooked harmony.
A unique music was also heard at the pound of hammers by the Lokavšek blacksmiths who harmoniously worked iron and steel. The Lokavšček and Jevšček brooks used to propel a number of saws, mills and blacksmith’s workshops at Lokavec and its surroundings. The Kuši settlement is home to a blacksmith’s workshop converted into the blacksmith’s museum which is open to the public.
What is the sound of the monk’s prayers at Vipavski Križ? The ancient little town surrounded by a wall and situated on a hill boasts a rich historical, cultural and spiritual heritage: the parish church of the Holy Cross, the Capuchin monastery accumulating an extensive library and once a powerful castle with four towers. Primož Trubar preached before the Holy Cross Church, and for many years the convent was home and work place for the renowned preacher Janez Svetokriški. The Capuchin monastery and its library are now also open to visitors. Here you can get to know monastery life and listen to the articulate silence.
Descend Vipavski Križ towards Velike Žablje and continue cycling along the Vipava River. Allow its sounds to reveal to you a new story.
