The department of German Studies at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Maribor presents the International Scientific Conference, in collaboration with the European Society of Phraseology EUROPHRAS.
The EUROPHRAS conference, a bi-annual event organized by selected European universities, is the most important international event in the field of phraseology for scholars and professionals dealing with phraseology of individual languages and the metaphorical-idiomatical language level. This prestigious international conference provides an opportunity for eminent phraseologists to share theoretical and creative ideas as well as practical experience.
The leading theme of the conference is the variety of relations between culture and language, which is why the conference is also included in the programme of Maribor 2012 – European Capital of Culture.
The research activities will focus on the cultural, historical, intercultural, semantic and semiotic aspects of phraseology in language communication. The phraseological unit as a linguistic phenomenon will be examined within the context of cultural, historical, literary, artistic, philosophical and educational dimensions. The conference will address the following areas and themes:
• Phraseology and culture (In medias res.)
• Phraseology and the symbol (Nomen est omen.)
• Phraseology in interlingual and intercultural contact (Nosce te ipsum.)
• Phraseology in dictionaries and corpora (Libri amici, libri magistri.)
• Phraseology in language teaching and training (Usus magister est optimus.)
The conference program will consist of plenary sessions, thematic sessions, workshops and the presentations of books, projects and posters, with a special emphasis on student research projects. The proceedings of the conference will be available online by means of a simultaneous virtual image of the conference and the use of interactive components.
