The impression that Godovič imparts to a traveller is that of a charming village lying amidst fields and meadows, which are surrounded by groves and forests. The village sprung up in the extreme northwest part of the Notranjska valley under the hill Jelenšek (817m), where at present runs the Idrija-Kalce road. The village has had an important traffic position for quite a long period of time, mostly due to the crossway with roads leading to črni Vrh and Ajdovščina. The road connection Idrija – Godovič (11 km), running through the rocky gorge Zala, was opened in the mid 19th century in order to facilitate traffic movement between the Idrija mine and Logatec, which was located on the Dunaj-Trst railway line. In the village and its close environment one may track many natural and cultural sights. The settlement – a dispersed village – is surrounded by a karst plateuo full of sinkholes, sinking creeks, and caves. Particularly worthy of our attention is a church of St. Urban (1756) with stained-windows created by artist Marko Jerman.
