Klavže barrages on the Idrijca are the largest in our country. Before 1774 they were designed by Jožef Mrak, a surveyor in the mine of Idrija. The dam was degraded when it was remade into a hydroelectric power station. Idrijske klavže spanned more than 41 m between the two riverbanks. The wall was about ten metres thick. The klavže held back up to 210,000 m3 of water. Water was let out of it through two vaulted openings.
