What do you get by combining the hottest names of Slovene music with folk music heritage? Sounds of Slovenia, a multimedia project which unites renowned Slovene solo musicians under the artistic vision of project leader Janez Dovč. The result is an exceptionally vivacious modern rendering of traditional Slovene music heritage. The musicians were able to strike a perfect balance between the endowment of different musical traditions and the freedom of personal creative expression. The end of the new era is no longer only about the Renaissance but also about the resonance. No longer is it only about sonority but also about harmony. The question of attuning to the market turns into the tuning of different voices. Slovene folk music is the memory of a distant past, a sentiment which echoes not only the cultural but also the economic and political diversity of Slovene regions. Respecting the diversity and integrity of different worlds is essential for recognizing new patterns which can lift us from the economic and ecological crisis. Only by developing a sense of dynamic balance and respect of diversity will we be able to overcome “the clash of civilizations” and achieve “harmony of cultures” in Slovenia, Europe and the world.
