In the old town centre, there are numerous prominent houses, which in 2012 will be marked with a symbol 'cultural heritage' and briefly described in Slovenian and English. Locals, tourists, and visitors will learn about the past of the town on the streets. They will see in situ where important people from Novo mesto lived or were born, for example Božidar Jakac, Marjan Kozina, Leon Štukelj, Janez Trdina, Dragotin Kette, Jurij Slatkonja, Anton Podbevšek, Angela Smole, Ilka Vašte, Julija Primic, Janez Krajec, Ferdinand Seidel, Boris Andrijanič, Miran Jarc, Ignacij Hladnik, etc. They will learn which historic events took place in the Novo mesto Cultural Centre, Križatija, the former Breg restaurant, and some other buildings. They will also be told in which houses important shops or services first started to run, for example the first pharmacy in the Bergman House and the first post office in the Fichtenauer house. All these pieces of information will be included in a booklet—a tourist guide—that will be published in 2012.
