“THEATRE”, the latest project of two leading European companies/collectives in the area of contemporary performing art, EN-KNAP in SUPERAMAS, stands at the crossroads where Renaissance painters and their use of perspective meet the developers of twenty-first century 3-D computer technology, where the paths of the Ottoman sultans in the fifteenth century cross with those of the Western powers-that-be of our day and age.
By using various extended reality techniques (3-D images, avatars and mapping) “THEATRE” seeks to present a world structured by the politics of illusion. Playing true and false stories, navigating between reality and virtuality, the project seeks to keep politics and the image of politics apart. Or mix it even more. The audience will, however, be given an opportunity to see clearly: the toolbox will be opened before their very eyes. And we hope that this time, their attention will be directed at the frame as much as at the vanishing point.
