The book Styria, a Restless Country is a result of an active cooperation between dr. Leopold Toifl from the Universalmuseum Joanneum Graz (Austria) and professional personnel of the Regional Museum Maribor. The book presents the military history of Maribor and its wider environments from the 13th until the 19th century. It describes Maribor's role in Europe during the troubled times of the Hungarian and Turkish raids, the Peasants' revolts and the French conquests.

Besides the weapons collection of the Regional Museum Maribor, the exhibition is also featuring objects from the country's armoury Landeszeughaus of the Universalmuseum Joanneum in Graz, Austria. Regarding its volume the weapons collection of the Regional Museum Maribor is among the largest in Slovenia. It comprises of weapons and equipment from the Late Middle Ages to the middle of the 20th century. Between the 15th and 18th century Styria had been a border country and thus under constant thread. The weapons which had been used for its defence came from the central armoury in Graz. The objects from both museums will thus reflect the common history of the two cities and the whole of Styria. The exhibition will be installed on the ground-floor of the Castle bastion, which had been build in the 16th century as a part of the European defence line against the Turks. Exhibition curator: Tadej Pungartnik
