"The European Day of Jewish Culture" celebrates Jewish history, culture, and heritage in 30 European countries. In 2012, the sinagogue in Maribor will display the faximile of the manuscript Haggadah, one of the most important Jewish cultural monuments and Medieval illuminated manuscripts. The handwritten and exquisitely illustrated text tells the story of Jewish liberation from slavery in Egypt on 34 pages. It was made around 1350 in Barcelona, carried out of Spain during the 1492 Jewish expulsion and was by the Sarajevo National Museum in 1895 in Italy. The manuscript was hidden away from Nazis and the Ustashe by Muslims. During the siege of Sarajevo in the 90’s, the museum was destroyed, but the manuscript was left alone.
Opening Hours: Monday-Friday: 8:00-16:00
