“September Folklore Evenings” is an international folklore festival, organised by JSKD Ptuj in cooperation with local folklore associations. This year, the festival is taking place for the second time. At the first festival, the organisers invited the folklore groups from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Resia valley, and Bela Krajina, along with local folklore groups. In five evenings, groups with various traditions will present themselves through dance, singing, and music.
On the third evening, the Slovenian evening will take place, with performances by: FS Dragatuš, Bela krajina; KUD Študent, Maribor, FD Lackova vas.
FOLKLORE GROUP DRAGATUŠ comes from the centre of Bela krajina region. The group was established in 1957, and has 60 members. In the last 20 years, the members of the folklore group have been organising traditional annual folklore evenings, and have regularly been attending international folklore festivals. This year, the group finished an extensive research project where they filmed the folk singers and musicians from the area. The project resulted in 4 records of almost forgotten folk songs from Bela krajina, which additionally enriches the folk legacy of Bela krajina. Based on the recordings from the field, professor Mirko Ramovš reconstructed seven folk dances from the central Bela krajina region, and have not been transcribed or performed by any folklore group yet. At September Folklore Evenings, the folklore group Dragatuš will present six stage performances of song and dance.
The university folklore group KUD ŠTUDENT from Maribor is one of the best groups in Slovenia, recreating Slovenian folk legacy through song, dance, and rich costumes. The group was established in 1964, and is also the co-organiser of the largest folklore festival in Slovenia – Folkart – from which the Festival Lent was born. Almost 70 folklore “students,” either dancers or musicians, create in three groups.
FOLKLORE SOCIETY LANCOVA VAS was established in 1983. Between the years 1991 and 1993, the group was aided by experts Marija Makarovič, Mirko Ramovš, and Aleš Gačnik to do a research of the clothing culture, costumes, and the dance and carnival heritage. The research helped them to enrich their programme with new clothing and dances from Lancova vas and the near region. They present all this at performances in Slovenia, as well as abroad. The cultural society consists of singers, musicians, dancers, the children’s folklore group, and the section of Kurents. They already performed in Austria, Italy, Germany, Croatia, Hungary, France, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Turkay, and Singapore.
