English author Roald Dahl (1916–1990) is one of the most popular youth literature writers (Matilda, Witches, The Big Friendly Giant, Revolting Rhymes …) and perhaps one of the best-selling authors in the genre. About his children's stories he said once: "I make my points by exaggerating wildly. That's the only way to get through to children." However, his stories are so sarcastic and humorous, that even adults can appreciate them. His stories are always pure fantasy, full of imagination, always a bit cruel, yet never fail to provide an ample dose of humour. George’s Marvellous Medicine is a story about a nasty, bossy grandma, about a scientist father, about George who is often bored to death but mostly about a marvellous medicine. When grandma and George are alone grandma often finds entertainment in terrorizing George, sending him hither and to, controlling him, bossing him around, preaching and generally keeping him from playing at his own will. To play a little prank on her George thinks of a new, marvellous medicine which, upon grandma drinking it, turns out to be a real magic potion which causes unusual changes. The performance George’s Marvellous Medicine will enchant the young and young and heart with lots of humour and peculiar, yet very real magic.
