The closing ceremony of Maribor 2012 – European Capital of Culture will once again remind us of the Cultural Embassies, the programme strand which presented the culture and art of 31 countries during the year. The last country to present its art and traditions in Maribor will be Brazil, with a magnificent and unique video mapping performance by Pedro Zaz in VJ Spetto, members of the Brazilian group UNITED VJs.
UNITED VJs, an international crew from São Paulo with partners across Brazil and Europe, creatively combine different forms of digital arts using video projection, mapping, architecture, optical illusion, software programming, sound and video art. The young and proactive multidisciplinary team of VJ artists has previously performed at prime venues in Brazil, as well as in Budapest, London, Berlin, Switzerland, Lisbon, La Paz, Buenos Aires, Transylvania, Colombia, Bolivia, etc.
The UNITED VJs successfully merged video mapping with stage design and created shows for various bands at different venues. With the support of the Ministry of Culture of Brazil and the Cultural Exchange programme in 2010 and 2012, UNITED VJs have staged a large scale video mapping piece at the Budapest Eiffel Park. In September 2012, UNITED VJs created a video-interactive scenario for children at the museum of the City of Guarda in Portugal.
