Mislinja is the central settlement in the upper part of the Mislinja Valley. Its centre is in Šentlenart, and is the meeting point of Pohorje and the Karavan mountain ranges. It is the southernmost settlement in the Koroška region. The town was first mentioned in records dating from 1404. Real development came with the ironworks, of which we are reminded by the name of the small village Plavž (meaning blast furnace). In the middle of the 19th century the ironworks began to lose their validity. At the property of A. Perger, who in 1900 switched to the timber industry, the saw mill, a few typical houses and a plantation of exotic trees have been preserved. The last charcoal piles, which served the ironworkers and glass makers, are today only of ethnological interest. Worth a visit are also the churches of St. Leonard and St. Ahac, the Robnik blacksmiths and the archaeological find at Dovže – villa rustic. There are many opportunities for pleasant outings to Rogla, Kopa, Turjak, Stara Glažuta and elsewhere. The locals are proud that the painter Jože Tisnikar was born in their town.
