As a response to the increasing number of Japanese guests in Slovenia, and in the desire to establish stronger ties between Japanese tour operators and the Slovenian tourism sector, as well as to improve the recognisability of Slovenia, May 2010 marks the opening of an information office in Tokyo. The office premises are within the offices of the Slovenian Embassy, with which it collaborates closely. The information office has been tasked primarily with market communication of Slovenia’s tourist services, media contact and, equally, communication with the B2C segment.
The number of Japanese visitors has been rising steeply in recent years. Japanese travellers value most highly beautiful landscapes, historical features, cuisine, shopping and the safety of the destination. The task of the information point is through promotion among target groups to raise interest in visiting Slovenia, and through promotion in the Japanese market of still relatively unknown features, to extend visits to Slovenia. As part of its activities to promote sales, the information office participates at the JATA fair, and collaborates in organising workshops and in presentations to the general public, as well as in a large number of joint projects with the representations of other national tourist boards in Japan.
Given the distance and specific nature of the Japanese market, the primary tasks of the information office include monitoring developments in tourism in the Japanese market, seeking new potential market niches, analysing the profile of Japanese guests and offering information to Slovenian tourism staff on working with Japanese guests. Satisfied guests who spread favourable publicity about Slovenia are indeed one of the best means of promotion.
The information office is headed by Tina Zadnik, a graduate in Japanese and Chinese studies. The office opening hours are Monday to Friday, 11 am to 3 pm, and any questions may also be addressed to: tina.zadnik(at)slovenia.info or tokyo(at)slovenia.info.
