Sopota valley

Sopota Valley is located at the foothills of Kum, with an altitude of 1.219 metres the highest mountain in Zasavje, and is regarded as the southern border of the Kum mountain-range. The valley is named after a stream, which springs at an altitude of 760 metres just under the village of Velika Preska and then continues its way through a wild, tight and picturesque Sopota Valley, full of smaller cascades and rapids. The stream's journey ends 18 km from its spring at an altitude of 200 metres above sea level in the city of Radeče, where it flows out into the Sava River. Eventhough an extremely tight gorge, called Vidrna pec, is widely regarded as the valley's most beautiful section, many visitors find the remains of old sawmills and watermills, which provided food for valley's inhabitants in times long-gone, even more charming. Nowadays, a detour road from Radece to Litija leads through Sopota Valley, which makes the valley easy accesible, but the traffic is rare as some parts of the road are in bad condition.
