For the people of Idrija and visitors to the area, Gore is a popular place for a day out, particularly on Sundays. The belfry of Gore's church is clearly visible from the town, even at night, when it is lit up like a scene from a fairytale. Gore offers an extensive and "picture postcard-like" panorama of the Idrija area. The old settlement, lying at around 850 metres above sea level, is clustered around the church of St Mary Magdalen, built in 1823 on the site of a much older church. Oral tradition still conserves the legend of a miraculous mist that protected the sanctuary from the Turks. The most important village holiday is the Feast of St Mary Magdalen (22 July).
