On Sunday, 29 July, the Mayor's Friendship Stage will be the music venue for traditional Dalmatian music with the presentation of the pearl of the Dalmatian coast – the city of Split. The rich cultural heritage is closely connected with the “klapa” songs; therefore, we are honoured to welcome one of the oldest “klapas” from Split. The traditional Dalmatian Klapa Filip Dević from Split was founded as early as 1962. Their repertoire includes mainly original songs about Split and Dalmatia, however, the group also performs popular songs. Their singing is marked by a specific sound as well as a distinct serenade style. The Dalmatian Klapa Filip Dević takes part in numerous festivals and its most notable performances were those at the Dalmatian Klapa Festival in Omiš. In cooperation with pop artists, they appear mainly at the Split Festival. The group has won several prizes among which the most notable being the City of Split Award and the award for special contribution to the development of the Dalmatian klapa music at the Dalmatian Klapa Festival in Omiš. Together with their current artistic leader Prof. Jakša Gilić, they have travelled almost all around the world and share fond memories of Australia, New Zealand and the USA. The members of the group to perform in Maribor are Branko Tomić, Serđo Sirišćević, Denis Radić, Neno Grubić, Berislav Bralić, Toni Veldić, Damir Grubišić, Ivica Jaman and Jakša Gilić.
To feel this spirit of Dalmatia, visitors are warmly invited to spend the afternoon on the banks of the Drava River at the Mayor’s Friendship Stage on Sunday, 29 July, at 5.00 pm.
