Recreation, mental exercise, balance therapy, a type of yoga, a social event – all this and more is slackline. During the last days of summer ŠTUNF Student Festival of Culture will give the tightrope walking enthusiasts a chance to take part in the slackline workshop, whereas the curious onlookers can get a feel for the sport and see just how much effort and precision is involved in walking down the narrow line.
The term “slackline” originates in English and is derived from two words – “slack”, meaning “not tense”, and “line”, in the sense of “rope”. Slackline is the quest for perfect balance, using a dynamic, stretching rope attached to two solid anchors, usually trees. Once the slackliner mounts the line, the basic idea is to stay on top while carefully moving forward and trying to hold one’s balance.
Slacklining is a great means of relaxation and an excellent workout for top as well as casual athletes who feel they are up to the challenge of walking a rope. Due to its versatility, slacklining is increasingly gaining grounds in becoming an independent and accepted sports activity.
