Ribnica na Pohorju is a small, clustered settlement on the Ribnica plain, on the flat pass between the Velka in Vuhreščica valleys. In Roman times a road passed through Ribnica from Slovenske Konjice to the Drava Valley. As the area is surrounded by expansive, dark, 'pohorje' forests, the inhabitants here have, since old times, been involved with forestry, sawmilling, and animal husbandry. The area was also known for the production of glass, however, this activity died out at the turn of the 20th century. Today Ribnica is an idyllic climatic tourist town with bungalows, ski slopes, and well developed farm tourism. It is also a pleasant starting point for hiking excursions to Ribnica cottage and Jezerski vrh (summit).
From the church of St. Leonard above the lower part of the village, to the parish church of St. Bartholomew (documented in the 14th century, today the building has an addition of a Baroque shell dating from the 18th century), there are 14 chapels depicting the Stations of the Cross, which were erected in 1774. A road to Ribnica cottage leads from the village, and from there a walking trail goes to Ribnica Lake.
